Ankylosing spondylitis (AS)

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a deadly disease which comes under auto immune diseases. This case commonly occurs in males and females at the ratio of  3:1. It occurs due to genetic cause or rare cases due to some environmental factors. The early signs are dull low back pain and radiating pain on back of thighs and legs. The main symptom that gives the idea to assess  the inflammation involve in sacroiliac joint; mainly the Sacroillitis (the severe inflammatory condition of the sacroiliac joint) cause abnormal pain in the gluteus region later that gets worsen and continues to pain over the thoracic spine and then involvement of the cervical spine. Early diagnosis and treatment of the disease can prevent the worsening condition of the patient. HLA – 7 gene if present in the human body is responsible for the development of this disease.

• CT/MRI scan shows the inflammatory condition of the spine.
• Other possible test are presence of HLA -  gene in blood.
• Response to the NSAIDS (Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs)
